Hey OVC!
Work is going well. I’ve been at the same company for almost a year now. I am working for one of the Irish cell phone network providers called Meteor. I am based in one of the main call centres in central Dublin. I started out in sales and I am now in the Retention Dept. I am enjoying it all, but I do miss my family very much. I also miss the lovely Durban sunshine and life! Nevertheless, I am making the most of my opportunity here.
I guess my faith has carried me through, even the Irish themselves struggle to find work here. Many Irish people are regularly leaving to Australia, the USA and Canada, so I must admit it is difficult here. Surprisingly, there are still many jobs about, companies like Vodafone, Sky TV, Facebook and quite a few others are regularly recruiting and even the company I work for also always recruits new staff. One of the girls from our college also works at the company I work for. I am currently working on gaining as much experience, knowledge and contacts as possible and I hope to eventually set up a business in SA.
It also requires a lot of perseverance and discipline when one arrives here, many people who come from SA squander their finances very quickly and by the time they do find work their finances are finished and if they haven’t found work by then, they are forced to go back home. It can take on average about 6-8 weeks to find a job, provided one works hard applying for as many jobs as possible. You also need to effectively follow up on the applications made so that it shows how interested you are in the particular position you have applied for.
Best regards,
Kelvin
